Susan McCarthy, Ph.D.
Dr. McCarthy is a Program Director in the Cancer Immunology and Hematology Branch, Division of Cancer Biology, NCI. Her research focused on T lymphocyte development and immune regulation. After an initial post-doctoral appointment at the University of Alberta, she continued her training in NCI’s intramural Experimental Immunology Branch. As an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, she studied T cell differentiation and apoptotic programs, and served as the first Director of the interdepartmental Immunology Graduate Training Program. Dr. McCarthy’s grant portfolio includes pre-translational research on T cell function as it relates to adaptive immunity to tumors, cancer vaccine development, and adoptive transfer strategies for cancer immunotherapy.
