Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource (CEACR) and Meharry-Vanderbilt Supplement Information (ComPASS Collective for Community)
To advance the goals of ComPASS, the program awarded two supplements to support community organizations engaged in NIH research and complement existing community-engaged research efforts at NIH.
ComPASS & CEACR: NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL)
ComPASS partnered with the NIH Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource (CEACR) to provide technical assistance through webinars, office hours, and consultation to strengthen the capacity of community organizations to apply to and engage in NIH research.
CEACR is an initiative through the NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL), which partners with community organizations to conduct research that improves the health of communities. CEACR was established to elevate best practices in community-engaged research and to provide customized expertise in optimizing inclusive participation in research. For more Information, visit the CEACR website.
In partnership with ComPASS, CEACR will sponsor individual consultations as well as five webinars and office hours for community organizations and research teams on the following topics:
- Identifying NIH funding opportunities for community organizations
- Formulating research agendas, designing a study, and building a team
- Grant writing strategies for success
- Ensuring ethical research in our communities: navigating NIH policy, human subjects, and data protection guidance, data sharing requirements, and community-based research review processes
- Moving from knowledge to action: using research to change policy and practice
For more information and to register for upcoming webinars, visit the ComPASS CEACR website.

The ComPASS Collective Supplement Aims:
Aim 1: Identify resources, tools and best practices for community-led, community-engaged and health equity research:
- Develop a publicly available resource for community organizations.
- Create resources, evidence-based information, and best practices for sustainable engagement of communities in health equity research.
- Conduct a literature review and landscape analysis for broad dissemination of community-engaged and community-driven research to determine effective approaches to engagement in NIH research.
Aim 2: Capture the voices of historically marginalized and excluded communities to understand additional needs and strategies for engaging these groups:
- Perform a needs assessment to engage different communities through community partner interviews and input from experts across NIH and community organizations.
- Organize three hybrid meetings (two virtual, and one in-person in Montana with Tribal communities) focused on priority areas derived from the needs assessment.
