GENOME-WIDE REGULATORY NETWORK GOVERNING NEURONAL MRNA TRANSLATION

GENOME-WIDE REGULATORY NETWORK GOVERNING NEURONAL MRNA TRANSLATION

‚ÄčThe fruit fly eye consists of about 800 repeated eye units that form a beautiful and well characterized structure. Even quite subtle perturbations of the patterning and differentiation of the photoreceptor neurons causes a readily observable roughening of the eye. This effect is easily seen by observations under a simple dissecting scope or by scanning electron microscopy. By yoking the mRNA of each gene to this simple readout, we will identify the suite of regulatory mechanisms that control neuronal translation.
