General Information

A block of sleeping rooms is being held at the Bethesda Marriott Suites  for the nights of March 18 and March 19, 2018 at a negotiated rate of $253 per night plus applicable taxes. The hotel is located 0.8 miles from the meeting location at NICHD. Travelers are responsible for making their own reservations in this block secured with a personal credit card. Reservations must be made by Sunday, February 25, 2018 to ensure a room in the block at this rate. Reservations can be made with a personal credit card online.

Local Airports

Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest airport to the hotel at 19 miles and is accessible by Metrorail service. Dulles International Airport (IAD) is 23 miles from the hotel, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is 36 miles from the hotel. We suggest considering all three airports when planning your travel to the BD2K Behavorial and Social Sciences and Big Data Workshop as airfares and flight schedules differ between these airports depending on your departure city. If DCA is your destination, you can travel on the Blue Line from DCA toward Largo Town Center to Metro Center Station and then transfer to the Red Line in the direction of Grosvenor or Shady Grove, exiting at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station. You will need a taxi from the metro station to the hotel, which is about 2.7 miles. If you are traveling Amtrak, take the Red Line from Union Station in the direction of Grosvenor or Shady Grove and exit at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station. Travel From Washington National Airport - 18.7 miles, 24 min. drive time (from Bethesda Marriott Suites website)

Take George Washington Parkway North for 12.4 miles. Follow signs for I-495 N/Maryland and merge onto I-495. Travel 4.4 miles and take a slight left onto I-270 Spur N. Travel 0.6 miles and take exit 1 for Democracy Blvd. Merge onto Democracy Blvd. Hotel will be on the left.

Travel From Washington Dulles International Airport - 23.1 miles, 29 min. drive time (from Bethesda Marriott Suites website)

Take Dulles Access Road. Travel 12.2 miles and take exit onto VA-267 E. Travel 1.1 miles and take the I-495 N exit. Keep LEFT at the fork and merge onto I-495 N. Travel 7.4 miles and take a slight left onto I-270 Spur N. Travel 0.6 miles and take exit 1 for Democracy Blvd. Keep right at the fork and merge onto Democracy Blvd. The hotel is on the left.

Travel From Baltimore/Washington International Airport - 37.5 miles, 43 min. drive time (from Bethesda Marriott Suites website)

Take I-195 W for 4.1 miles. Take the exit onto I-95 S and travel 20 miles. Take exit 27 for I-495 W toward Silver Spring. Merge onto I-495 W and travel 9.4 miles. Taje exit 36 for MD-187/Old Georgetown Rd toward Rockville/Bethesda. Take a sligh right onto MD-187 N/Old Georgetown Rd. Travel 0.6 miles and turn left onto Democracy Blvd. Hotel is on the right.

Alternate Transportation

• Union Station (Amtrak's headquarters): A superbly restored, historic, mixed-use, inter-modal transportation and shopping center located just blocks from the U.S. capitol Building. The terminal is served by Metro, Amtrak, MARC, and VRE commuter railroads, and is the main bus terminal of Washington DC as well as a drop off and pick up center for many DC tour bus operators.
• Metrorail: The easiest mode of public transportation in the Washington DC region.Grosvenor-Strathmore Station on the red line is the closest Metro stop (2.7 miles from the hotel).
• Metrobus: Provides more than 400,000 trips each weekday serving 11,500 bus stops in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Metrobus is the sixth busiest bus agency in the United States, with a fleet of more than 1,500 buses operating on 325 routes.
