Dynamics Underlying Tissue Integrity

Dynamics Underlying Tissue Integrity

The image describes the workflow of a project designed to discover the rules by which cells assemble into tissues and organs. We plan to use computer-based models of how cells interact within tissues to develop predictions to specify the fabrication of nano-to-microscale devices that will be used to reassemble a functional tissue. The cells within the tissue device will be imaged to ascertain the flow of cell signals. This tissue device will be tested for recreation of the key kidney function: the ability to filter small molecular weight waste into the urine while retaining protein in blood. The experimental observations will be used iteratively to refine the computer models and enhance the design of the tissue device.
